To join our family department as a solicitor, the successful candidate will be providing an effective and timely service to the firms clients.There are also opportunities to develop your career in legal services and progression within the firm.Principle DutiesCandidates must have detailed knowledge of and provide advice in respect of the following:
- To manage an agreed caseload of clients dealing with a range of family and divorce matters including but not excluded to : Private Law Children, Divorce, Finance, Injunctions, some public law such as conferences or lac reviews, legal aid and private fee paying work.
- To attend to clients in person and on the telephone and provide legal advice to them
- To use the correct office systems and procedures in order to manage cases effectively and in accordance with the firm’s standards
- To ensure that files are submitted for costing at the earliest opportunity and in some instances calculated the fees and costs on file
- To collect outstanding disbursements as soon as feasible and to bill promptly
- To maintain professional standards
- To introduce clients to other fee earners as appropriate
- To undertake any specific training or refresher courses in order to keep your knowledge and skills up to the standard required
- To liaise with and assist other members of the department as necessary
- To ensure confidentiality and security of all practice and client’s documentation and information
- To undertake any such duties which may be required of you from time to time by the Partners.
Requirements and skills
- 3 years+ PQE as a Family Solicitor
- Law Degree or adequate legal knowledge to manage a caseload of Family Divorce, Injunctions, Finances, Private & Public Children, legal aid and private fee paying.
- To attend in person or by telephone and provide immediate cogent advice to clients.
- To demonstrate an ability to effectively deal with the firm’s information system both manual and technological
- To demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of the SRA’s regulations to ensure confidentiality and security of all practice and client’s documentation and information.
- Good verbal and written skills are essential
- To be self-motivated and prioritise work load in a dynamic environment
- Ability to develop good working relationships with all staff and agencies with whom it will be necessary to establish contact.
- Must be conscientious, competent, positive and motivated
- Must be of good character
- Must have experience of working as a solicitor in a Family Department
- Should have excellent IT skills
