The Role:
To join our litigation department as a paralegal, the successful candidate will be working for individuals and businesses on mixed value pre litigated and litigated files. Types of claim include but are not limited to contested probate, landlord & tenant, nuisance, debt recovery and breach of contract. There are also opportunities to develop your career in legal services and progression within the firm.
Principle Duties Candidates must have detailed knowledge of and provide advice in respect of the following:
- Making initial case assessments and costs budget during first client consultations, establish the firms suitability to provide advice based on the specialities of the department.
- Advise clients on the law and apply to their case
- Conduct pre-claim investigations and legal research
- Draft pleadings, applications and witness statements
- Administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organise case files, file closing, AML checks and risk assessments) and retain LEXCEL and other standards
- Instructing and liaising with Counsel as and where required
- Provide assistance with case settlements
- Keep up to date with changes in the law
- Other such duties of similar grade and nature that may be required
- Supporting others in the department and working as a team
- Liaising with existing and new clients
- Involvement with business development activities in the firm
Requirements and skills
- 1-2 years work experience as a Litigation Paralegal/NQ Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive
- Applicable knowledge of claims, evidence, court rules and procedures
- Apply technical and common sense judgment to manage client expectations and deliver results.
- Excellent drafting skills across a wide range of legal documents, placing particular importance on accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent listening and problem solving skills to deliver the needs of the client
- Excellent communication skills, in English Language, in written and spoken form, and ability to communicate technical and complex subjects ensuring clients understanding
- Passion for client care and service to develop ongoing relationships with clients
- Motivated and organised
- Be able to deal with work proactively and to work on own initiative; problem solving abilities
- Team working skills are essential
- Good time management and ability to meet deadlines
- Self-motivated and genuinely interested in career progression within the firm
- Proficient in use of IT, all MS Office, email and internet
