Wyre Forest Phoenix stretched their unbeaten run to eight games, with a win and a draw this week.

Saturday saw us take on Halas Hawks where they worked hard on their attacking game and produced some brilliant football. Comfortably taking a 3-0 lead in to half time, with a goal from Hackett and two from Jones. The second half the players tried out some new positions and added a fourth when Hackett scored her second.

After a good win, confidence was high going into a evening game against top of the league Meadow Park. Meadow Park won the league and cup last season and have already added this years cup to their successes. The players knew it was going to be a hard game however they put in the performance of the season. It shows what these girls are capable of when they believe in themselves.

Hard work and being a team proved a massive advantage and Phoenix shocked Meadow Park halfway through the first half, when Hackett forced a mistake from the defender and sprinted forward to smash home a goal.  The league leaders were on top throughout but Phoenix matched them every minute.  After a very positive team talk, where hard worked was key, Phoenix continued the quality and deservedly extending their lead. Dunlop scored a penalty after a handball in the box. From that moment on it was about stopping Meadow Park scoring! unfortunately they got one back after a freak goal changed the momentum of the game. Meadow Park scored direct from a corner. The girls tried to regroup but before they could they were hit with a sucker blow and it was 2-2.

The last 15 minutes were all about not losing the game and Phoenix held out for a very impressive draw.

Next Wednesday night they take on our other Phoenix team at Mill lane to try and cement third and push hard for second in the league.
